Champions League Matchday 2 for Tottenham is set in Lisbon. Sporting currently top the group after beating Frankfurt 3-0, away from home, in a statement performance which certainly changes the complexion of the group.
Ex Spurs player, Marcus Edwards shone in Germany, contributing with a goal and an assist. Edwards has always had the talent, but his attitude was questioned. However, it looks like he has now resolved that issue and is putting in really strong performances consistently for Sporting Lisbon. As for the team, they set out in a similar formation to Marseille, with wing backs that tend to push high up the pitch. Former Wolves man, Francisco Trincao is in fine form for the Portuguese side, he has scored three in their last two games, and has been pivotal in the majority of Sporting's 7 goals across the last two matches. Sporting pose a massive threat on the attack, they have a lot of pace, and create numerical overloads very frequently, it is important that we cope with the pressure, when under the kosh, and attempt to silence the crowd early on.
I expect us to field an interesting team tomorrow, here's what I anticipate:
Lloris, Emerson, Romero, Dier, Lenglet, Perisic, Bentancur, Højbjerg, Kulusevski, Kane, Richarlison
I expect Son to be rested, Conte's words in his press conference seemed to be leaning towards the idea of resting Sonny, however I am sure we will still see him in action today, and hopefully he can make an impact.
Today, a convincing performance would be really nice, I would like to see us dominate more games, but that is me being picky. It will be a really tough task to go to Lisbon and pick up a positive result, they are a really strong outfit, and I'm sure they'll be up for the fight. It's going to be a battle, let's hope we can claim a good position in the group. COYS!
