I think it's fair to say, when Lenglet arrived at Tottenham, the general feeling was that we had failed in our pursuit for a centre back. However, I believe that the Frenchman could prove to be a really key player for us this season, under Conte.
Clement possesses great technical ability, he has a good eye for a pass, and looks comfortable when in possession. Against Fulham, he showed that he is also a very capable defender. He dealt with whatever came at him really competently, as well as looking good on the ball. This makes me think Lenglet could potentially be a better suited option to Davies against a low block, his passing range and calmness will be a big asset if we ever need to break a team down. I think we might see a fair bit of rotation in the left centre back role.
Many people will doubt him due to what happened towards the end of his Barcelona career, but let's not forget how good he was prior to Barcelona's down fall. He clearly began to lose confidence after the fans started to turn on him, as a result, it became rather toxic at the Camp Nou, and turned into a bit of a mess. However, Lenglet wasn't solely to blame, numerous players were not fulfilling their potential, which ultimately frustrated the fans and it resulted in a bit of a downward spiral from then on.
It was really important that Clement joined a much more pleasant environment, to develop his game. Especially given Conte's track record with this sort of situation, he is at the right place. I believe he can really kick on under Antonio, and I look forward to seeing more of him in lilywhite. Keep your eye on Clement Lenglet.
